Indie Film Roundup: 2 VHS docs, Wolf Cop, and Fist of Jesus!

I've recently discovered several new indie films that are in various stages of production (mostly by accident; God Bless the internet!), and I think you'll all be psyched about each one of them. We've got two VHS documentaries, and two horror-comedies that will have you waxing nostalgic and cheering for more gory hijinks! First up is a completed VHS documentary called REWIND THIS!

Featuring interviews with Troma founder Lloyd Kaufman, Full Moon's Charles Band, and various directors and VHS fans/collectors, REWIND THIS! takes a look at the rise and fall of the VHS tape, and its continued popularity despite being a "dead format." It looks quite interesting and just made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, which ends this weekend. No word on a DVD (or VHS?) release date yet, but to keep up on what's new with the film and to learn more about it, be sure to visit its official site at www.rewindthismovie.com!

But REWIND THIS! is not alone folks, for this is another, much smaller budgeted documentary in the works called ADJUST YOUR TRACKING, that takes another look at the world of the VHS tape, and the people that still collect them. Scroll down a bit for the bitchin' poster and the teaser trailer. CLICK HERE to visit the official site and learn more about this upcoming documentary!

This makes me pine for my old VCR! So cool!

Continuing on, its time to look at some new indie films that blend Horror, gore, and comedy together. First up is WOLF COP, the tale of a drunken cop named Lou Garou (HA!) who ends up becoming a drunken lycanthropic police officer! The filmmakers have created a hilariously awesome concept trailer and are currently battling it out with other indie hopefuls on CineCoup to earn a million bucks to make WOLF COP a reality. Check out the concept trailer below, then head over to the main website (www.wolfcop.com) to find out how you can help get this flick made!

Finally, I need to give some love to the most insane indie film project I've come across in a while. Imagine if Jesus Christ himself, while bringing Lazarus back to life, accidentally screwed up and created the first ever zombie plague on Earth. And hey, what if Jesus (and Judas) battled the undead hordes to save humanity?! That is the concept for FIST OF JESUS (a.k.a. ONCE UPON A TIME IN JERUSALEM).

A short film by collaborators/co-directors David Muñoz & Adrián Cardona is currently up on Youtube, and they are attempting to pull together funds to create a feature-length version. Check out the FIST OF JESUS short below (these gents are all from Spain, so keep that in mind when you are assailed by English subtitles), then head on over to the official site (www.fistofjesus.com) for production updates and to help donate to the completion of a movie that can only be described as "The Greatest Story Ever Told" meets "Dead-Alive!" Enjoy!

HAHAHAHA! Extra points for the random inclusion of ZOMBIE COWBOYS! This really looks awesome; I hope they pull together the funds to make the feature-length version.

Oh, and since we're currently on the topic of the epic tag-team of David Muñoz & Adrián Cardona, here is their short film BRUTAL RELAX, which features aquatic man-eating zombie creatures paying the price for ruining the relaxation attempts of a violently insane gentleman named Mr. Olivares. Needless to say... THIS. IS. AWESOME!

FULL MOON NEWS: Valentine's Day Sale starts Wednesday + Wizard Video VHS Collection announced!

Starting at NOON on Wednesday, February 13th, and ending at NOON on Monday, February 18th, you can get 50% off almost everything being sold at FullMoonDirect.com! There's not a full list of what will be half-price at the moment, but you can most likely expect all DVDs, Blu-rays, boxed sets, and probably posters, toys, t-shirts, and replicas.

I should also note that if you share the above image on Facebook, you'll be entered to win any boxed set of your choice, signed by Charles Band! If I win, (and I most likely won't, haha) I'm either grabbing the Puppet Master Blu-ray trilogy, or picking up one of the Full Moon Classics sets.

Also, I'm a little late on reporting this, but Charles Band announced a few days ago, that a bunch of mint condition Wizard Video boxes were discovered in one of Full Moon's warehouses. Let me reiterate that part: The BOXES for thirty-six Wizard Video VHS titles were discovered. Determined to turn lemons into lemonade, Charles, who still has the masters for each VHS title, is going to duplicate video tapes to put into each Wizard Video big box.

Each original VHS big box will be numbered and signed by Charles Band, and will contain a duplicated VHS copy of the film. Four titles are being released a month, for the next nine months, and will be going for about fifty bucks apiece. For more details, check out the Full Moon vidcast below:

I myself used to be a big VHS collector and had maybe half a dozen flicks in oversized boxes, but I've either sold them or given them away, and for that I am now kicking myself. The only big box/clamshells I have left (that I can think of) are for "Exterminator 2" (with MARIO VAN PEEBLES!) and "Exterminators from the Year 3000."

While some have complained about the price, especially considering the fact the boxes (though in great condition) lack the original VHS tape, this is still a really cool collectible, and once they are gone, they are gone for good. So keep an eye out for the first batch of Wizard Video VHS tapes, which go on sale TOMORROW, at www.wizardvideocollection.com!

The first four to get released for this month only are: RETURN OF THE ZOMBIES, TRAUMA, OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES, and DEMONIAC.

Late but genius marketing: V/H/S coming out on VHS!

In a bold (but rather late) marketing move, Magnet Releasing has decided to release "V/H/S" on VHS! While this may seem like a no brainer, I am pretty surprised that they are doing this.

VHS has long been considered a dead format, but like the creatures that lurked on many of the video tapes we rented in our youth, the format just keeps coming back from the dead. (I should note that 2009's "House of the Devil" came out in a limited DVD/VHS combo; also Troma president Lloyd Kaufman released his studio's flagship film, "The Toxic Avenger," in a limited edition big box VHS last year.)

There's no word on a release date, or if VHS copies of "V/H/S" will be limited in number (making them highly collectible), but once I heard something I'll most definitely post it here.

As for the film itself, I got the Blu-ray for Christmas but still have yet to watch it. It seems to have had a polarizing effect on the Horror community; there's no middle ground when it comes to this movie. You either love it or you hate it. It has my curiosity and will perhaps soon have my full attention. Regardless about how you feel about this movie, it's clear that it must have done pretty well because the sequel, "S-VHS" is already in the works and due out later this year!
